Check out Shane

Shane did great at his appointment at the Marcus Autism Center in Atlanta yesterday! We got the test results from the first blood test he did about 4 months ago, it said that he didn't have Fragile X syndrome and is not genetic. The doctor said about 80 percent of Autism cases have no known cause.

Shane's Appt.

So we had Shanes appt. with the biomedical doc in Macon GA today! It was great and informative. The results won't be back for a while though. For now they said it was great that I started the GFCF diet, and I am gonna start giving him cod liver oil, a probiotic and digestive enzymes and also some diflucan to kill yeast in his gut. His gut may not be absorbing all the nutrients so they are gonna check his stool too. Once they get the blood results back then they will go over it and see if we need to do anything else.

small update...

Shane has been doing really really good lately! Everyone that sees him, like his speech therapists and my friends all say they notice he's been making eye contact a lot and generally seems happy, like he's always smiling and laughing now. That makes me so happy! The diet has been hard, but we are trying. He's still not fully off of gluten stuff, but the majority of his food is dairy and gluten free. Also, I started giving him some really good quality (ie. expensive!) liquid vitamins 3 times a day made specifically for children with autism. I think they help a lot too.

He goes in to see the Biomedical doctor in Macon, GA on Monday. I know they are going to run a bunch of tests on him, (like toxicity levels, specific allergens, etc), but we will have to wait a couple months for those results. I hope he does ok! Then he goes back to Marcus Autism Center in Atlanta on Aug. 18. Lots of doc appts!

Early intervention services for Shane will end when he turns 3, October 15th, and they recommend him starting special ed school then. Mike and I are both unsure about this yet, he seems so young! But they want to start him off 2 days a week I think, half days. Any body have any thoughts about this?

Makenna starts her school on Sept.8 I can't wait! I have also enrolled her in a beginners ballet/tap dance class! I am so excited for her to start!

Me and my babies...

Also... an update on my niece Isla.... She has been diagnosed with infant epilepsy. I am so sad. She will have to take medication for it. Doctors haven't found the cause of it. I personally think it was because of the vaccines. Thank you for your prayers...
